DADOS® - a gap spectrograph from the house Baader
developed at the institute for Max-Planck for extraterrestrial physics in Garching

“The DADOS® Spaltspektrograph should actually be based on our simple lattice which we for soon 20 years for schools manufactures, then it became until recently in subscription offered. We presented the first DADOS® prototype nearly one year ago and pursued afterwards very attentively the discussions in the Web, which led to repeated, dramatic changes in the conception. One can say thus that the DADOS® was along-designed by the municipality of the Spektroskopiker in the net in not insignificant way. We are very grateful for all references, because we mean that the product became better around a multiple thereby.

Meanwhile we do not use no more our transmission lattice, but we have two different reflecting gratings in preparation (200 l/mm as standard and 900 l/mm gg. Surcharge) - as Replikas, based on particularly made Mastern (- no catalog lattices!) - the blaze angles of the lattices (just like the optics see below) are exactly co-ordinated with geometrical and optical conditions in the DADOS®.

One can stop the desired wavelength coverage very exactly now with the help of a micrometer screw (likewise a new improvement). A stable T-2 connection for large CCD cameras (e.g. SBIG) or for various Adaptionen of eyepiece connecting pieces (as well as drastically more increased a “baking focus”) is present.
As heart beside the lattices the reflecting Spaltplättchen with the precisely manufactured three-fold gap (with gap widths 25/35/50 mü_m) permits a permanent, simultaneous view on three column closely lying side by side, so that one itself for each too spektroskopierende

For visiting objects and for visual adjusting on the gap without Webcam two low-priced eyepieces are in 10mm and 20 mm focal length gg. small surcharge available. For focusing on the adjusting star and/or on the gap serves among other things a gap lighting in form a red LED with adjustable brightness (contained in the price) - it shines from the rear by the gap forward toward for the adjusting camera and/or that 10 mm or 20 mm visiting eyepiece and prevents in such a way that the light arrives to the LED to the rear at the gunsight objective.

The collimation lens system forwards, and/or behind the blister lattice consists momentarily of two achromatic objectives (possibly however it becomes even two Triplet lenses). These are counted particularly and manufactured for optimum dissolution and are provided with the best producible broadband coating for antireflection (there is not catalog lenses!).

The gunsight objective can us be moved backward over 2 " Helical Fokussierer over a very far distance very accurately before and and makes it possible, (nearly) all admitted CCD and DSLR cameras (- and/or naturally practically all conceivable eyepieces) into the focus to bring and easy and precisely focus. In addition an index mark is attached at the Fokussierer, whereby a printed Gegenskala is provided as sticker, so that one can adapt the focusing scale in optimal way.

The equipment has chromium-plated 2 a " connector socket with conical (self locking) safeguard groove as standard connection. On the chromium-plated 2 " connector socket at the equipment fits in front a neon calibration lamp with 2 " Steckfassung and 220V current supply (surcharge EUR 28,--).

If one removes the chromium-plated connector socket, then a large number of other Adaptionen is made possible by standard 2 " sports club internal threads in the front Gehäusekubus of the DADOS®. To this thread we can supply with we a multiplicity of alternative Adaptionen, e.g. our to 2 " /T-2 reducer (#295 8242), for the connection of the DADOS® directly to the T-2 standard photo thread (M42x0.75), in order to ensure an absolutely wackelfreie connection to the telescope.

2 " internal threads in front at the first Kubus can be screwed on in addition, without the chromium-plated connector socket directly to sports club telescopes and by means of our 2 " Locking ring (kind No. 245 8270) in each rotatorischen position be wedged absolutely firmly - in this way the DADOS® fits even between the fork arms of most azimuthal installed Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes. Both the adjusting and the picture-giving camera are arranged in the 90 degree of angles to the equipment axle, in order to keep the overall length as short as possible.

Both for the adaptation of most diverse adjusting cameras and for (nearly) all picture-giving CCD cameras there is each quantity of further rings, extension and/or reducers from our astro T-2® adapter program.

The DADOS® is smaller, easier and more shortbuilding with same or better achievement than every other spectrograph which we so far tested.

Detailed operating instructions are provided (possibly with something delay…), including a detailed introduction to the spectroscopy of astronomical objects as well as “sources of light in the everyday life occur”!

Other lattices of the usual standard dimension of 25x25x6mm with lower as well as still higher spectral dissolution can be used also with DADOS®.

The efficiency of the DADOS® spectrograph amounts to at least 60% with 550 Nm.

DADOS® is optimized larger for telescopes with aperture ratio around f/10 and. With faster openings an easy Vignetierung must be taken in purchase. The spectral dissolution is limited in no way.
 
This easily operated gap spectrograph, which was developed particularly for the employment within the range of the spectroscopy practical courses at schools and universities as well as in the amateur astronomy, has all characteristics of a professional spectrograph. It is characterised by the following outstanding characteristics:
  • By the employment two different Reflextionsgitter and a high-quality optics particularly counted is obtained a high luminous efficiency
  • a micrometer screw permits a very exact adjustment of the truss boom
  • contrary to gapless spectrographs sources also expanded (fog, planet, comet) can be examined as in professional observatories
  • the spectral dissolution (lambda/delta lambda ~ 500) permits an exact spectral classification of stars
  • the whole visible and close-infrared spectral region (350nm - 950nm) can be covered with a SBIG ST-7
  • direct view on the gap, with eyepiece or Webcam, makes an optimal positioning and adjusting possible of the sky objects
  • the gap spectrograph is applicable also with bright optics with an aperture ratio up to f/6.3
  • it fits at standard of 2 " Okularauszüge
  • the compact building method permitted also the employment under restrained conditions
  • the spectrum can be regarded with brighter objects directly with an eyepiece
  • are made available next to each other on a Spaltplättchen three column (25/35/50Fm)
  • the Spaltplättchen is from the rear illuminable with red LED for focusing adjusting cameras on the gap
  • the spectra of all objects can be taken up alternatively with a Webcam, a digital or a CCD camera
  • all cameras and eyepieces can be attached problem-free over adapters of our T-2® of system.
